AZ Human Resources Orientation and Academy
The AZ Human Resources (HR) Orientation and Academy were borne out of a challenge to become #1 in the nation. This challenge forced HR to closely consider the training and professional development available to State HR practitioners.
- AZ HR ORIENTATION
AZ HR Orientation is a 6-hour introduction and training for new HR practitioners and professionals normally completed within three months of starting in the HR role. AZ HR Orientation is delivered by the State's 12 Chief HR Officers (CHRO) who have over 260 years of HR experience. Topics include the State's 5 HR Competencies, HR Essentials, a Tour of the HR Website, Policies and HR Laws You Need to Know, HR in the Public Sector, and a CHRO Panel Discussion.
Attendees earn 6.0 professional certification continuing education credits and are eligible to attend AZ HR Academy.
- AZ HR ACADEMY
AZ HR Academy has three levels and promotes the consistent application of employment laws, rules, and policies in State HR practices, as well as provides professional development opportunities and builds a bench of strong HR talent throughout the enterprise. Level 1 is required for all State HR practitioners after completing HR Orientation. Level 1 consists of five sessions ranging from 3.0 to 3.5 hours/session.
Attendees earn 12.75 professional certification continuing education credits and are eligible to attend AZ HR Academy Level 2.
Level 2 General Session is taught by State subject matter experts and culminates with a cohort project. The General Session is followed by Level 2 Specialty Tracks in HR Operations, Recruitment, Employee Relations and Classification/Compensation and is designed for HR professionals who seek advancement in their selected HR discipline.
Level 3 is designed for HR professionals with leadership aspirations and is available by invitation only. Level 3 requires two professional development activities and a 30-day CHRO job shadow assignment. Participants earn professional certification continuing education credits.
AZ HR Orientation and AZ HR Academy are the proud recipients of the 2022 NASPE Award for Advancing the HR Profession. This award recognizes programs and efforts within state government that addresses the changing landscape and serves to advance the HR profession by advancing professional development opportunities, facilitating communication and networking between HR staff at all levels, and promoting a sense of community and value in HR work.
