Layoff/Reduction in Force
When agencies find themselves in situations where funding is reduced or eliminated or positions are no longer needed, a Layoff or Reduction in Force (RIF) may be necessary. A RIF applies only to employees in covered service as provided in Arizona Revised Statute (A.R.S.) § 41-772 and State Personnel System Rule R2-5B-602. The term layoff applies only to uncovered employees.
Layoffs and RIFs are unfortunate and can be difficult for employees, managers, and agencies. If your agency determines that a layoff or RIF is necessary, the ADOA Human Resources Division is available to provide you with assistance. Please call the ADOA Human Resources Division early in the process so that we can answer questions and help you make this process as smooth and respectful as possible.
The Layoff and RIF documents provided should also assist you in the process. The documents provide resources for requesting the RIF or Layoff, communicating verbally and in writing with the employees, and providing resources to affected employees.
Please call (602) 542-5482 to discuss your Layoff or RIF needs.
